Message from CEO / President
Since our foundation in 1974, we have been developing and manufacturing the functional health food under the corporate beliefs of "The Harmony of Human Beings and Mother Nature".
Nowadays the safety and quality of food is strictly asked than ever before.
I am keenly realizing the importance of our quality policy "the pursuit of safety from the viewpoint of consumers".
Currently, we supply Nattokinase, Ashitaba, Sesame Minerals and The Fermented Vegetable Extract.  Among our products, nattokinase (the functional enzyme which is contained in natto, Japanese traditional fermented soybean food) is especially increasing the attention at home and abroad.  We are the first company which introduced nattokinase to the market.
I believe that the remarkably increasing demand for this food material is a result of high evaluation by people in modern society.
21st century is the era of biotechnology.  We continue to make a social contribution through every industrial world, meet the consumer's needs and aim for more advanced research and development.

History
Sep. 1974 Foundation of JAPAN BIO SCIENCE LABORATORY CO., LTD.
Discovered the bacteria that have a prominent productive ability of polysaccharide and enzymes in bacillus subtilis natto.
Succeeded in culturing an original strain by a method of strengthening microbes. In the meantime, developed the production method for the long-term maturation of enzymes, secretions or metabolic substances produced by this original strain from bacillus subtilis natto.
Started manufacture and distribution of a health drink utilizing useful microbes.
Apr. 1976 With the business expansion, added a new manufacturing line in Kyoto Factory.
Aug. 1986 Built new facilities and improved research equipment. Promoted R&D of a health drink, a base material for cosmetics, an animal feed and water purification. Established our Corporate Philosophy of "Social Contribution".
Nov. 1992 With the business expansion, increased the warehouse and the manufacturing space of Kyoto Factory.
Feb. 1994 Entered into the supply contract of the raw material for a health drink with a Korean pharmaceutical company.
May. 1994 With the business expansion, installed new manufacture facilities and added a new culture room and maturation room in Kyoto Factory.
Dec. 1994 Focused our attention on the function of Ashitaba that is native to Hachijo Island, Japan. Started the chemical-free organic farming of Ashitaba in Indonesia.
Jun. 1995 Started the R&D on a fibrinolytic enzyme "Nattokinase" which is contained in Natto.
Nov. 1996 Opened Kyushu Factory in Akimachi, Oita prefecture.
Oct. 1997 Focused our attention on the seed coat of sesame, which contains rich minerals. Established an extraction method for the minerals. Applied for a process patent for sesame minerals.
Apr. 1998 Established the manufacturing method of "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK-SD®" that contains a high amount of Nattokinase.
May. 1998 Started sales of the world's first Nattokinase containing supplement food "Natural Super Kinase" and functional raw material "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK".
Started sales of "Sesame Minerals"
Feb. 1999 Started export of "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK" to a Korean pharmaceutical company.
Jul. 1999 Started export of "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK" to a Taiwanese pharmaceutical company.
Nov. 1999 Succeeded collection and powderization of Ashitabas unique yellow color component "Chalcone" (polyphenol). Started sales of "Ashitaba Chalcone powder".
Aug. 2000 Started sales of a raw material, such as "Ashitaba powder" and "Ashitaba frozen juice" made in Indonesia, for Ashitaba products.
May. 2001 Obtained a process patent on sesame minerals (JP3,189,044). Then, awarded a patent in 10 countries including U.S., China, Taiwan and Korea.
Sep. 2001 Succeeded to remove the smell of Natto from "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK-SD®" and started its sales.
Aug. 2002 Opened a Sales & Development Section of the Tokyo office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
Confirmed the blood platelet aggregation inhibitory effect of "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK-SD®" (Presented at Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in March 2003)
Sep. 2002 With the business expansion, extended the warehouse and the packaging room in Kyushu Factory.
Feb. 2003 Granted a Japanese pharmaceutical company the exclusive right to sell "The Fermented Soybean Extract NSK-SD®" in U.S. and started the export.
Jun. 2003 Succeeded the powderization of the Fermented Vegetable extract "BIOZYME". Started sales of "BIOZYME-MC".
Oct. 2004 Received ISO9001:2000 certification (the Head Office and Kyushu Factory) with regard to the fermented soybean extract, the fermented vegetable extract, and their related products.
Oct. 2005 The Tokyo Office received ISO9001:2000 Certification.
Nov. 2005 Built a new research building and research plant in order to enhance the research system.
Mar. 2006 Obtained a US patent on "a supplement food effective for inhibiting platelet aggregation" (US7,014,851) in relation to The Fermented Soybean Extract.
Jul. 2006 Obtained a process patent on "a food derived from the fermented soybean extract".
Nov. 2006 Obtained a substance and process patent on "The Fermented Soybean Extract" (JP3,881,494).
Feb. 2007 Obtained a patent on "a recovery method of Vitamin K2" (JP3,911,282).
May. 2007 Obtained a patent on "a antimicrobial agent" against Helicobacter pylori by Ashitaba and Ashitaba powder (JP3,958,748).
Apr. 2012 Relocated the Osaka Head Office to the own building at 1-4-40 Fukushima, Fukushima-ku, Osaka-city.
